Responsible Gambling
Gambling can cause serious financial and personal harm. This page sets out the basics honestly: the maths, the warning signs, and where independent help is available.
The maths does not favour the player
Every commercial betting market and casino game contains a built-in margin. Over enough rounds, that margin means the expected outcome for the customer is a loss. Winning sessions happen, but they are variance, not skill or system. Anyone promising guaranteed returns is misleading you.
Warning signs of gambling harm
- Betting more than you planned, or more often than you intended.
- Chasing losses in an attempt to get back to even.
- Borrowing money, selling belongings or using funds meant for essentials.
- Hiding the extent of gambling from family, friends or a partner.
- Feeling anxious, irritable or low when not gambling.
- Gambling to escape stress, loneliness or other problems.
- Missing work, study or family commitments because of gambling.
Practical safeguards
- Decide a fixed amount you can genuinely afford to lose, before you start.
- Use deposit, loss and time limits where a licensed operator offers them.
- Set a session timer and stop when it ends, win or lose.
- Never gamble with borrowed money or credit.
- Use self-exclusion or blocking software if you find it hard to stop.
- Avoid gambling while drinking, upset or under pressure.
Protecting minors
Gambling is strictly for adults. Keep devices and payment methods secured, and consider parental-control or content-filtering tools on shared devices.
